The Econ App ("we," "us," or "our") is an educational mobile application that teaches university-level economics through interactive lessons, simulations, and an AI-powered tutor. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

By using The Econ App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

• Email address — If you choose to create an account using email sign-in, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. Account creation is optional.
• Onboarding preferences — Your selected user type (e.g., student, professional) and learning goals, used to personalize your experience.
• Feedback and support messages — Any feedback or messages you voluntarily submit through the app.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data — Screen views, lesson completions, quiz scores, button taps, and navigation patterns, collected via Firebase Analytics to improve the app.
• Device information — Device type, operating system, app version, and anonymous device identifiers.
• Learning progress — Lesson completion status and scores, stored locally on your device and optionally synced to the cloud if you have an account.
• AI tutor usage — Daily query counts and conversation content sent to the AI tutor, used to provide responses and enforce fair-use limits.

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, phone number, physical address, or payment information.
• We do not collect location data.
• We do not collect contacts, photos, or files from your device.
• We do not store voice recordings — speech input for the AI tutor is processed in real time on your device and is not transmitted or saved.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information solely for the following purposes:

• Providing and operating the educational features of the app (lessons, quizzes, simulations, AI tutor).
• Tracking your learning progress so you can resume where you left off.
• Personalizing content based on your stated learning goals.
• Analyzing aggregated usage data to improve app quality and fix bugs.
• Enforcing fair-use limits on the AI tutor (15 queries per day for authenticated users).
• Responding to feedback or support inquiries.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We do not use any third-party advertising SDKs or ad networks.

4. Data Storage and Security

• Local storage: Learning progress, preferences, and settings are stored on your device using local storage.
• Cloud storage: If you create an account, your progress and preferences are also synced to Firebase Cloud Firestore, which uses encryption in transit and at rest.
• Security measures: We use Firebase App Check to protect our backend services, HTTPS for all network communications, and Firebase's built-in security rules to restrict data access.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention

• Account data: Retained as long as your account exists. Deleted when you delete your account.
• Analytics data: Retained by Firebase Analytics for up to 14 months, then automatically deleted.
• Local data: Remains on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following options regarding your data:

• Use without an account: You can use the app's core features without creating an account. In this case, data is stored locally on your device only.
• Delete your account: You can delete your account at any time from within the app. This permanently removes all your data from our servers.
• Opt out of analytics: You can limit analytics collection by disabling usage data sharing in your device settings.
• Microphone access: Voice input for the AI tutor is optional. You can deny or revoke microphone permission at any time in your device settings.

7. Children's Privacy

The Econ App is designed for university-level students and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

8. Permissions

The app may request the following device permissions:

• Internet access: Required for cloud sync, AI tutor, and analytics.
• Microphone: Optional, for voice input to the AI tutor. Not used for any other purpose.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
